Dornock Church and Churchyard, Dumfries & Galloway
This church was built in 1793, with churchyard all around, majority of 18th C old gravestones.
Two seasons with a very different look
Headstone, probably18th C, with hunting symbols. John Clark family gravestone
Note the finely decorated crown and the hammerman's tools at the bottom of the stone
Hogback or coped stones, from 12thC or 13th C, moss and lichen allow to see decorations in relief
Headstone with bird and open bible (Rev 14, verse 13 : "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord")
March was much better than July for looking at the stone's bottom
